Ian also brings us the news that composer Marco Beltrami is to score James Mangold’s upcoming ‘Logan’, and delivers his Home Video Pick! The duo finish off SAT70 with their Pick of the Week, from composer Mark Mancina, and the amazing La-La Land Records! We’re back with episode 70 of Sideshow & Tell, the first SAT of 2017, live, unscripted and unedited with Ian Crabb and Will Dodson, your weekly mini newscast where your hosts bring you all the latest info on composers, film music, and movie news! This week the producers of Sideshow start by breaking down their favourite and least favourite films of 2016, then later discuss the latest film and television music releases including A Monster Calls by Fernando Velázquez, from Back Lot Music and Quarter Records, Sherlock Series 4 by David Arnold and Michael Price, from Silva Screen, and finally, The Fly by Howard Shore, by Varèse Sarabande. There's no track listing given, probably because some titles may be somewhat spoilery, but Star Wars purists will be happy to know that the film's score will still feature some of Williams' iconic themes mixed in with Giacchino's new music. The soundtrack hasn't been released yet, but it is available for pre-order in CD format only (how quaint) from Amazon, with an expected release date of December 16 - the same date the movie hits theaters.
The film's music was instead conducted by Michael Giacchino, and if you're curious about how it sounds, here's how you can listen to the Rogue One Soundtrack. The film doesn't feature any Jedi, it lacks an opening crawl, and it's the first movie in the franchise to not be scored by John Williams. As the franchise's first-ever standalone spinoff, the movie is bucking a number of traditions that have been a part of every Star Wars movie so far. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story really wants to differentiate itself from other Star Wars movies.
